If you’ve ever received a HUGE PDF file from a client (maybe a print proof) and needed a quick and easy way to make the file size smaller (without buying PhotoShop or Adobe Acrobat Professional), I’ve found a workable solution. I was looking for a way to “resample” or “downsample” the embedded images in the PDF so that the resulting filesize would be much smaller. I found and downloaded the “A-PDF Image Downsample” trial program and tested it on a 3MB PDF file. It reduced the file size down to 200K without any noticeable loss in quality. Not too shabby! It even has command line and batch modes. This is definitely going into my bag of tricks.
